Importer Exporter Code (IEC Code)
An Importer Exporter Code (IEC) is a crucial business identification number mandatory for export from India or import to India. Unless specifically exempted, any person shall not make any export or import without obtaining an IEC. For services exports, IEC may not be necessary unless the service provider avails benefits under Foreign Trade Policy.
IEC registration certificate is mandatory before initiating import. The entity must also have GST registration. Without these, the goods may get stuck at customs.
